Purpose of investigation

We investigated the ideal amount of negative ions based on clinical data found in medical literature.
It is said that negative ions have beneficial effects on health but you may be wondering what the ideal amount is. Some advice you to take xxx pcs/cc, while others suggest yyy pcs/cc. There are many factors which influence the ideal amount because it can depend on the person and symptoms. It can also vary depending on how negative ions are generated, the ratio of negative/positive ions and measurement tolerances.

Conclusion

Fig. 3 is a histogram of the number of clinical trials vs the amount of negative ions.
Based on this data, we suppose:
  1. It is quite possible that the ideal amount falls between 1,000-500,000 (pcs/cc) because approx. 85% of the clinical trials were conducted in this range.
  2. It seems that negative ions produce significant effects when the ion count is up to 50,000 (pcs/cc) because as many as approx. 54% of the clinical trials were conducted in this range.
A negative ion generator is required to produce negative ions in these ranges.

Notes

You need to be aware of the following issues to determine the ideal amount because it can be affected by them.

Where the negative ion count was measured
The negative ion count should be measured where the patient is positioned. However, it is possible that it can be the count measured at the blow off point of the negative ion generator.
Air ion counters and measurement tolerances
The actual negative ion count can vary depending on the measurement tolerances and mobility of the air ion counters.
Kinds of diseases and symptoms
The ideal amount of negative ions can depend on the person and symptoms. The amount of negative ions, which works for a symptom, may be insufficient for another symptom. However, we do not have enough data for further analysis.
The ideal amount of negative ions can vary depending on health conditions.
Fewer negative ions are said to be sufficient for a person who has no health problems. The data was collected from patients through clinical trials, so the ideal amount is for those who have health problems. A person, who has no health problems, may not find a positive effect.

Data collection and review

These 3 histograms show the data we collected.
  1. Very effective: 34
  2. Not effective + Fairly effective: 19
  3. Very effective + Not effective + Fairly effective: 53
Fig. 3 (Very effective + Not effective + Fairly effective) shows that approx. 85% of the clinical trials were conducted in the range of 1,000-500,000 (pcs/cc) of negative ions.
1. Very effective

Review
Fig. 1 shows that 50,000 (pcs/cc) negative ions can be sufficient to produce beneficial effects because approx. 60% of the clinical trials were conducted in this range. This implies that higher densities than this level are not always necessary.
  • Total number of clinical trials: 34
  • Average: 191,537(pcs/cc)
  • Minimum: 2,600(pcs/cc)
  • Maximum: 2,700,000(pcs/cc)
2. Not effective + Fairly effective

Review
This histogram does not show any significant trends because the numbers of clinical trials do not change much through all the ranges.
  • Total number of clinical trials: 19
  • Average: 947,526(pcs/cc)
  • Minimum: 1,000(pcs/cc)
  • Maximum: 12,000,000(pcs/cc)
3. Very effective + Not effective + Fairly effective (1+2)

We obtained the conclusion based on Fig. 3.
Review
This histogram shows that most of the researchers conducted the clinical trials in the range of up to 500,000(pcs/cc). Approx. 54% of all the trials are found in 1,000-50,000(pcs/cc) and approx. 85% are in 1,000-500,000(pcs/cm3).
  • Total number of clinical trials: 53
  • Average: 462,552(pcs/cc)
  • Minimum: 1,000(pcs/cc)
  • Maximum: 12,000,000(pcs/cc)

Summary

We suppose that the ideal amount of negative ions falls between 1,000-500,000 (pcs/cc), which is much wider than we presumed.

We only had 53 samples of clinical trials on humans. We could have collected more data if trials on animals, internal organs and cells had been included.

However, we are happy because we have found that approx. 54% of the clinical trials were conducted in the range of up to 50,000 (pcs/cc).

The histogram shows that only approx. 5% of the clinical trials were conducted in the range of over 1,000,000 (pcs/cc). However, it is possible that the actual amounts of negative ions the patients absorbed were below 1,000,000 (pcs/cc) because we are not sure if the ion counts were measured at the blow off point of the negative ion generator or not.

Effects on the human body are said to vary depending on the length of the exposure time. We are sure that we can obtain a more precise figure if we take this factor into account.
